Anyone want to educate me on IPv6?

I did an aptitude update today and at one point it paused waiting for an IPv6 address to time out.

Since IPv6 is more autoconfigurable than v4, isn't there a way for a box to know if its LAN has any 
IPv6 routers on it?

And if it didn't, might it be OK to turn off all the v6 on the box?

Hmm.  I seem to have teredo running so maybe the v6 stuff works and it was a different issue.
