Some guys in France wrote a book on Debian administration.  Seems like it would be a great book to 
read but I don't read French.

They couldn't find a publisher to translate it.  So they collected donations to fund the 
translating.  And eventually made enough that they decided to make it Free.

And now it's available (and in Debian, obviously):

One of the keys to the success of this project seems to be that they set a price to match their 
normal rate.  They didn't do it for free and they didn't try to get rich off it.  And they had a 
good idea how much work it would take.

Seems like a good place to get an introduction to various topics no matter what distro you use.
