My older nvidia cards are unhappy with Debian lately.  I guess they've dropped the nv driver for the 
fully open one that isn't ready yet (nouveau, maybe?).  So updates to Xorg take fiddling to keep the 
nv driver installed (I've gotten the source and built it with the current kernel but I'm leery of 
building it against 3.x).
