oh that is rubbish.. Linux is Linux is Linux.. Ubuntu is just Debian 
with some different default package selections and a different base 
installation... don't like what you get? apt-get install what you do 
want. Every window manager is an apt-get install XYZ away, and changing 
your environment from your Displaymanager login window.

If you think there are insurmountable differences with various Linux 
distributions, you've got a lot to learn about linux. Case in point, the 
number of times I have live-converted a Redhat machine into a Debian 
machine... it's all userspace, it's all customizable.
