For a really good discussion/study of entropy as related to 
communication theory (Shannon), get and read James Gleick's latest book 
"The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood" (Pantheon, 2011, ISBN 
978-0375423727), easily found in your public library or on Amazon.  This 
is highly recommended reading for all interested in the history and 
theory of communications and information theory.
