I'm not familiar with Tuxonice, I'm afraid. I have to admit, though,
after reading about it on the website my interest is piqued
(especially about the ability to hibernate to a dm-crypt device). Does
this still require the kernel's involvement to restore from
hibernation? Or, put another way, does it require the kernel to start
up first, then load in the memory image to continue execution? If so,
tuxonice still suffers from the same penalty that swsusp and uswsusp
do: it still needs to modprobe the modules necessary to access the
memory image media.

This is, of course, assuming your disk drivers are modules and not
statically linked into the kernel -- but that was the original point
of the thread. =o)
