After much thought, gthrelk at comcast.net proclaimed:
> Windows fdisk reports the file system as "unknown"

You could try to use fdisk in Linux to add a system ID to the partition. I'm 
not sure why linux sees what it is but windows doesn't but it might be worth 
a try. Also, make sure that the windows partition is marked active in 
fdisk../peter
