Might be significant what kind of system he used.  I copied a (windows 
app install) CD on a Linux box once.  The autostarter would fail and 
tell me it couldn't find a file that was obviously present (and 
readable).  From that I inferred that Windows understands Rock Ridge but 
in some cases requires Jolliet.

I didn't work very hard at testing my hypothesis.
