Thanks for the suggestion.  I did unset the DISPLAY env variable.  Here's 
what I tried:

Client          Server
Jumanji       Jumanji
Flower        Jumanji

Jumanji = Linux
Flower = NT, running ssh via cygwin

I have the same results with either client.  Basically, ssh times out.
