Yes.  I would recommend CVS for this problem.  Only using FTP, you and your 
colleague will not get version control of changes to the site.  Maybe 
tracking changes is not too important, but it comes in handy more times than 
you may think.

Checkout the CVS manual http://www.cvshome.org/docs/manual for details in 
setting up a CVS to do what you need.
